MacOS Only

This software downmixes surround sound/Dolby Atmos content to stereo at resolutions up to a 9.1.6 speaker-configuration. There is no HRTF processing applied. The software works equally well on capable stereo loudspeaker and headphone systems.

1. Install and unzip Downmix Renderer.zip
2. Install BlackHole 16ch: https://existential.audio/blackhole/
3. In MacOS's Audio MIDI Setup, configure speakers for BlackHole 16ch to 9.1.6 with the channels labeled 1-16 in ascending order and apply those settings
4. Attempt to open Downmix Renderer.app
5. Click "Done" when MacOS says "Apple could not verify “Downmix Renderer” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy."
6. In MacOS System Settings > Privacy and Security > Security, if prompted, click "Open Anyway," for the Downmix Renderer, and follow further instructions
7. Allow microphone access for Downmix Renderer
8. In the Downmix Renderer, select BlackHole 16ch as your input device and your 2-channel DAC as your output device
9. Optionally, adjust the preamp value according to your needs
