Taskopen shows a missing library.

If it outputs anything, check /tmp/task.linkage to see which dependency requires PCRE.

If it correctly outputs nothing, rename your taskopen configuration file and run taskopen again. If it runs correctly, the problem is in your config.

I removed .taskopenrc (leftover from container-based installation).

It still does not work.

Maybe it is a nested dependency.

On my system:

May need to deprecate taskopen if it relies on EOL PCRE.

Currently, Homebrew is phasing out support for old PCRE. When combined with distros that have already phased out PCRE (e.g. Debian Trixie, RHEL 10, openSUSE Tumbleweed, etc.), this means some formulae may no longer work.

Will note this is actually a limitation from nim. However, some dependents don't use nim's PCRE-based libs so nim itself can remain which is likely the reason Debian still has it (though oddly missing on Trixie but available on Forky):

nim is still in progress of replacing PCRE but existing code will likely need to be ported afterward as it looks like they are now considering std/nre2 based on pure-Nim regex library:

EDIT: Also, we do have a workaround for std/nre to use PCRE2 but taskopen uses std/re
